According to the International Diabetes Federation, the amount of people with diabetes has been estimated to increase over the next few decades. In 1985, an expected total of 30 million people were diagnosed with diabetes and in 2000, the total has increased to more than 150 million. By 2025, it is predicted that the number will increase to 380 million. According to the Ministry of Health’s statistic stated in the NCD Malaysia 2004 report, the total of admittance to Government’s Hospitals in Peninsular Malaysia for Diabetes Mellitus has escalated from 19, 629 cases in 1991 to 30, 661 cases in 2001, a rise of 56 percent over a period of 10 years. In addition, humanity caused by diabetes has also grown from 254 deaths in 1991 to 380 deaths in 2001, a growth of 50 percent – a truly alarming figure.

Through this event, Kenny Rogers ROASTERS aims to create awareness on diabetic issues and cultivate good food intake, especially among the young ones, as they say ‘we are what we eat’. In this case, prevention is always better.

The ROASTERS Chicken Run will be held on 19 July 2009 at 7.30am onwards. The run will be covering the surrounding area of Berjaya Times Square. The first 100 early birds to register for the race will be entitled to a California Fitness Training Pack worth RM340 each. Every participant will enjoy complimentary 1 day entry to Cosmo’s World Theme Park, the largest indoor theme park in Malaysia, after the run.

The winning participant must appear at the finishing line with the egg fully in tact on the cone.
